Biography
Typography, publicity, posters, book design. Born 13 June 1912 in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt. Apprenticed as a lithographer, then spent four years in a newspaper office before studying at Stuttgart Höhere Fachschule where he was influenced by the work of Walter Cyliax, former art director in Zurich. 1933-40: worked for printers, publishers and industrial clients. 1937-40: worked for Belser Verlag, Stuttgart. After 1945: freelance, worked mainly as book designer. From 1948: designed posters and publicity material for Daimler-Benz, Porsche, Dunlop, Olympia, German Red Cross and other companies and charities. 1951: living in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt. 1960: won 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes in Federal Horticultural Exhibition 1961 poster competition.
