Sigmund von Weech

Biography

Illustrations, textiles, postage stamps, exhibitions, woodcuts, certificates, trademarks. Born 1888 in Landsberg a. Lech (Bavaria). First studied architecture at the Munich Institute of Technology (Technische Hochschule), then at the Munich Kunstgewerbeschule under Julius Diez. Freelance; teaching post in interior design and drawing at the Munich Technische Hochschule. 1925: with Rudolf Koch, designed the Standard (symbol) of the Reichs President. By late 1920s von Weech and his wife Angelina had established near Tegernsee a weaving mill, creating decorative textiles. The workshop employed about 100 workers. 1931: head of textiles and fashion at the Textil- und Modeschule, Berlin. 1938: living in Berlin. From 1948: returned to Munich where he freelanced and continued to design decorative textiles. Member BDG and Deutscher Werkbund.
