Jupp Wiertz

Biography

Posters, publicity, book covers. Born 5 November 1888 in Aachen. Studied at the Berlin Kunstgewerbeschule. April 1919: Wiertz with Max Hertwig and 27 colleagues form the Bundes der Deutschen Gebrauchsgrapiker (BDG). 1921: designed Christmas plate for Rosenthal Porcelain. Designed posters during the 1920s and 1930s. From 1934, perhaps earlier, he had a studio in Berlin. Designed Deutsche Lufthansa publicity in 1935, posters for Mercedes-Benz, 1936, and for Hamburg-America Line, and travel posters by 1937. Won first and second prizes from the Central Council for International Tourism by 1937. Died February 1939 in Berlin.
