Hans Schweiss

Biography

Publicity, packaging, book design, display, illustrations, photographs. Born 25 February 1924 in Stuttgart. 1940-42: studied at the Stuttgart Akademie der bildenden Künste: a teacher was F.H. Ernst Schneidler. 1942: military service; taken prisoner during the war, not returning to Germany until 1949. 1949-51: completed studies at the Stuttgart Akademie. 1951: freelance designer in Esslingen; won award for best postwar German poster. By 1954: worked with his designer-wife Eva. 1954: awarded Gold Medal at Milan Triennale. From 1957s: head of the graphic design department at Werkkunstschule, Offenbach a.M. From 1972: living in Munich. His work usually showed a humorous element.
