Gerd F.G. Setzke

Biography

Publicity. Born 3 August 1912 in Hamburg. Studied with Hugo Meier-Thur. After working at a printing firm, he worked for the publisher Broschek. From 1931: freelance. 1941-3: lecturer of commercial art at the Hamburg Meisterschule für Mode (college of fashion). Studio destroyed in war. 1946: founded the Kunstschule Alsterdamm which became the largest private school for the graphic arts in the Federal Republic (and in 1967 was still its director). His freelance clients included Volkswagen and BASF.
