Gedo (Georg) Dotterweich

Biography

Lettering, book jackets, books, posters, certificates. Born 1 October 1914 in Nuremberg. 1932-6: studied at the Staatschule für angewandte Kunst, Nuremberg: a teacher was Max Körner. 1936-44: freelance, particularly for publishers; clients included the National Germanic Museum (1939-41) and the Nuremberg Kunstsammlung der Stadt (1941-3). After his studio was destroyed during the war he moved to Bamberg where he designed for many publishers. From 1964: taught at the Werkbundschule, Mainz. 1975-82: taught communication design at the Hochschule, Rheinland-Pfalz. In later life he was very interested in geometric art.
