Adolf Münzer

Biography

Born Adolf Franz Theodor Münzer 5 December 1870 in Pless, Upper Silesia. Studied decoration at the Breslau Kunstgewerbeschule. From 1890: studied at the Munich Akademie. From 1896: illustrated for the journals Simplicissimus and Jugend. 1899: founded, with Fritz Erler, the organisation Die Scholle. 1900-02: studied in Paris. 1903-09: worked in Munich. 1909-32: taught at the Düsseldorf Akademie. Created wall- and floor-painting and decoration for, among others, Park Casino in Munich, waiting-room of railway station in Düsseldorf and Littman’s Hoftheater, Stuttgart (most such works destroyed during the war). Member of Deutscher Werkbund. Died 24 January 1953 in Landsberg/Lech.
